EAZY-Touch Altazimuth Mount
PLEASE NOTE - The EZ Touch head now comes in the black and gold colours. The tripod is now a darker coloured hardwood.
Cloudy Nights Readers Choice Top Ten 2006 !
This new improved head mount is the latest from William Optics. It is entirely aluminum made, with a stylish sanded finish and new laser engraving. The knobs are Delrin and the shafts are plated steel. WO named it EAZY-Touch because it's easy to set-up, easy to use. Tracking stars even at high-power has never been easier. The extremely high quality allows for smooth movements without the need for any slow-motion controls. This very solid Alt-Az Mount is fitted with a Vixen bar clamp on one side and can mount Losmandy-style plates on the other, allowing you to mount two telescopes at one time. Mounting two telescopes should allow you to balance each other more easily too. Two scopes, twice the fun: invite your family to observe with you, or use a larger and a smaller scope at the same time, parallel-mounted.
The head weighs 3 kg and mounted on the included tripod will offer all the stability you need without compromising its portability and ease of use. Even at 300x, your views will be as stable as you want. The "Teflon inside" and ball bearing technology guarantees that there is no backlash and that your mount will perform outstandingly.
How much can you mount on it, how big a telescope? When using the William Optics tripod, or one of equal quality, you can mount up to 10 kg on either side without any need for a counterweight. That means that a 4"-5" refractor for example, is easily handled. For larger or heavier scopes, we recommend the installation of counterweights with a counterweight bar and standard counterweights. If you unscrew the bottom black pillar from the gold ring connection, you will find it has a 3/8 for usage on stable photographic tripods. The black pillar base is threaded M10; this will work with most camera-tripods (metric threaded) and for Vixen GP (Super Polaris and Vixen type clones, Meade LXD75 etc.) compatible tripods; however to get the best possible "bang for the buck", we strongly recommend the William Optics wooden tripod.
William Optics now sells 2 different sized Vixen style Dovetail Plates for usage with the Vixen clamp of the EAZY-T or with other compatible mounts. The L brackets, supplied with some William Optics 66mm scopes, will slide right into the Vixen side of the mount as well. The William Optics Combo plate, with corresponding rings, will fit the other side.
We strongly believe this mount has the best price-quality ratio for any ALT-AZ mount on the market because it is easy to use, resistant, very nice looking and at a price everyone can afford.
The WO Combo Plate and other accessories shown in pictures are optional.

Astro-Tech Voyager Altazimuth Mount
This exceptionally well-made and stable altazimuth mount can
be the heart of your very portable telescope/mount system. It is perfect for
grab-and-go terrestrial observing and casual visual astronomy. Astronomy
Technologies has designed this mount to deal with optical tubes weighing up
to 20 pounds (9kg), but there are no heavy counterweights to attach to
balance a heavy tube and no alignment on the celestial pole needed to start
observing. Simply slide your optical tube into the Vixen-style dovetail on
the Voyager mount’s altitude axis and start viewing.
The mount has two slow-motion control knobs (one altitude and one azimuth),
plus an 8.25" flexible control cable that can be substituted for the short
azimuth control knob for more convenient tracking when the mount is used
with physically longer scopes. The Astro-Tech Voyager mount has a dual
automatic friction clutch system that lets you quickly point a scope towards
a target manually, then track it in any direction with the smooth 120-tooth
worm gear 360° slow-motion controls. There’s no need to undo mechanical
clutches or locks in order to aim your scope as you have to do when
conventional slow motion controls run out of travel before you reach your
target. If you want to aim your scope at another part of the sky, simply
push it. The friction clutches disengage and the scope moves freely 360° in
any direction. Once you’re on or near the target, the clutches engage again
automatically and the slow motion control knobs let you center the object
precisely and track it accurately as it moves across the sky or landscape.
Friction adjustment knobs are provided to let you adjust the freedom of the
manual slewing motion of the scope to accommodate different payload weights.
The angle of the mount’s altitude arm that holds your scope can be changed
from vertical to 45° on either side of vertical. This allows you to put the
azimuth control knob on either the right or left hand side of the mount to
suit your personal observing preferences. Using the arm in an angled
position also reduces the amount of declination drift for many observers
when tracking celestial objects. Following objects across the sky becomes
primarily a matter of turning the azimuth slow motion control, with only an
occasional tweak of the altitude knob needed to keep an object centered in
declination.
The Astro-Tech Voyager mount has a standard Vixen dovetail mounting slot. If
your optical tube has mounting rings only, you will need to supply a Vixen
style dovetail plate to mount your optical tube on the Voyager.
The Voyager’s adjustable height two-section aluminum tripod legs have
pointed tips for a solid stance on dirt or grass. Damping time is very
short. All fittings on the legs are metal. The length of the legs can be
adjusted to set the height of the centerline of the dovetail slot in the
mounting plate to between approximately 33.5" and 47.75" high. The knobs
that lock the tripod legs at the desired height are placed on the inside of
the legs, so they can’t snag anything in the dark. A bubble level is built
into the tripod head. For travel purposes, with the altitude arm removed (a
simple matter of undoing only two bolts) and the legs fully collapsed, the
Voyager tripod measures 31" long. A three-legged folding plastic heavy
spreader bar assembly holds the aluminum legs firmly open, but lets them be
closed quickly and simultaneously for transport when you’re finished
observing by simply lifting up on the hinged center of the spreader bar
assembly. The spreader bar will accept any of a number of optional accessory
trays. A set of tools (4mm and 6mm hex head wrenches for the altitude arm
and control knobs and a triangular flat metal key for the friction
adjustment knobs) are supplied with the Voyager. An optional eyepiece tray
is available to hold up to five 1.25" and three 2" eyepieces. The complete
Astro-Tech Voyager mount and tripod assembly weighs only 13.75 lbs.

Eyepiece Tray for Voyager Altazimuth Mount
The Astro-Tech Voyager eyepiece tray serves a dual purpose.
First, the tray provides a convenient place to keep your eyepieces close at
hand. The tray holds up to five 1.25" eyepieces and three 2" eyepieces
conveniently located just a few inches away from the azimuth control knob.
Second, with several eyepieces in place, the Astro-Tech eyepiece tray
provides additional tripod weight to balance very heavy telescope payloads.
The Astro-Tech Voyager altazimuth mount will hold payloads weighing up to 20
pounds without balance problems, however some exceptionally cautious
individuals might prefer some additional weight on the opposite side of the
mount from the telescope location to provide an extra measure of stability
when a heavy scope is used. The Astro-Tech accessory trays' design always
keeps its weight on the opposite side of the mount from the scope.
The black-finished machined aluminum tray fits between the Voyager’s azimuth
slow motion control/tripod assembly and the mount arm. The bolts that hold
the arm to the azimuth slow motion control/tripod assembly pass through two
holes in the eyepiece tray and hold it firmly in place between the assembled
mount arm and tripod assembly. It can be used no matter in what orientation
the mount arm is attached to the slow motion control assembly, but should
always be installed on the opposite side of the mount from the telescope
location.

8" Extension For Voyager Altazimuth Mount
This Astro-Tech Voyager extension tube is an 8" long by 3.22"
diameter (206mm x 82mm) tube that threads between the Voyager mount’s tripod
and altazimuth slow motion control assembly. The extension tube adds 8" to
the height of the Astro-Tech Voyager mount for more comfortable viewing with
long focal ratio refractors, as well as providing more observing comfort for
tall observers using short focal ratio refractors and catadioptric scopes.
It puts the pivot point of the mount’s dovetail as much as 58.5" above
ground level.
• The walls of the aluminum extension tube are
0.45" thick.
• The tube weighs a little over three pounds.
• The tube is anodized matte silver inside and
out.
To install the extension tube, the Voyager mount’s slow motion assembly and
arm are first removed from the chrome adapter ring on the head of the
Voyager tripod. This is done by loosening the three set screws in the chrome
ring and unscrewing the slow motion assembly. The bottom end of the
extension tube has male threads. These thread into the internally-threaded
chrome adapter ring on top of the tripod in place of the removed slow motion
assembly. Once the extension tube has been fully threaded into the adapter
ring, the ring’s set screws are retightened to lock the extension tube
firmly in place with no danger of unthreading. The adapter ring’s set screws
engage a recessed groove in the fully threaded-in extension tube so there is
no danger of damaging the extension’s threads when tightening the set
screws.
PLEASE NOTE:
Be sure you have the internally-threaded version
of the Voyager mount
before ordering this extension tube.
PLEASE NOTE:
The first run of Voyager mounts used an
internally smooth adapter ring.
A version of the extension tube is available with two adapters that convert
the internally-smooth early version Voyager mount heads to the later
internally-threaded style.
If you have an early-version internally-smooth Voyager mount, you must
specify this so we can send the appropriate adapters with your
extension tube.
Once the extension tube has been threaded into the chrome adapter ring and
locked in place, the mount’s male-threaded slow motion assembly is threaded
into the female threaded top of the extension tube. Once it is fully
threaded in, three set screws at the top of the extension tube are tightened
to lock the slow motion assembly firmly in place. As with the set screws in
the chrome adapter on the tripod, the set screws in the extension tube
engage a recessed groove in the slow motion assembly so there is no danger
of damaging the assembly’s threads when tightening the set screws. The
extension tube can be left in place permanently, but can always be removed
easily at a later date if so desired.

JMI Micro-Slewing DC Drive System
For The Voyager Altazimuth Mount
This JMI battery-operated micro-slew drive is designed
for use with the Astro-Tech Voyager altazimuth mount to give you precise and
responsive hands-free/vibration-free pushbutton tracking of celestial
objects in altitude and azimuth (but not both simultaneously). It also works
for terrestrial observing, but its slewing speed may not be rapid enough to
track fast-moving terrestrial subjects. Terrestrially, it is more suited for
scanning scenery, following sail boats and harbor traffic, etc.
There are five parts to the dual axis drive. They include two DC motors (the
type used in JMI electric focusers and declination drives), two mounting
brackets, and a battery-powered hand control (plus the necessary cables and
hardware to install and operate the system). The motors move the Voyager
mount across the sky by electrically turning the mount’s manual slow motion
altitude and azimuth controls to track objects so you don’t have to grope
for the manual controls in the dark.
The mount’s existing slow motion control knobs are removed and replaced by
the JMI motors, which are held in place by the supplied mounting brackets. A
small hand control box plugs into the motors using the supplied coiled
cords. The hand control has a switch which selects either altitude or
azimuth operation. Pushbuttons control the direction of mount travel, while
a three-position slide switch sets the drive speed. Moving the
three-position switch to the left provides slow speed centering for low and
medium power observing. The center position provides fast slewing. Moving
the switch to the right provides very slow centering for use at very high
magnifications. The slow and very slow centering speeds automatically switch
to high speed slewing if the pushbutton is held down for more than three
seconds. The motor has electromagnetic braking for very precise control.
The control box holds a 9-volt battery (supplied) that should power the
drives for several months of normal use, depending on the temperature (cold
batteries do not last as long) and how much power-hungry high speed slewing
you do.

Telescope and/or Camera Tripod
It's here. I don't know about you, but I have been
waiting for William Optics to come out with a camera tripod for quite some
time. Something that I could use for my cameras - DSLR, video or digital.
Something that I could also use to mount my little favorite, a red ZS66ED
Triplet. Or when using my DSLR hooked up to my green ZS66ED Petzval. This
tripod suits my purpose and more. It will work for you too.
Physical Features
• 3-WAY oil fluid metal
pan head
• Leveling Bubble/Illuminated: yes
• Up and down central column
• 2-handle operation
• Quick release platform
• Adjustable non-slip with rubber feet
• Spiked/Retractable Feet
• Center Brace
The William Optics Light-Medium Tripod is for the photographer or observer
who wants everything he needs without killing his wallet! In fact, the WO
tripod offers everything you need in a tripod and more. A working height
range of 30.9 to 74 inches means you can find the perfect angle, high or
low, to capture your objects. And it comes with a 3 section leg, which will
give you all the height and stability you'll ever need.
It is entirely aluminum made, with a stylish finish. The leg material and
leg lock type are made of high quality aluminum. At the end of the legs are
rubber feet, that adjust to the required angle to help level out the tripod
on flat surfaces. Then, screw the rubber feet up and expose a spike, ready
for grass, carpet and other like surfaces. This tripod weighs 6.6 lbs
and offers great stability without compromising its portability and ease of
use. As an added bonus, it comes with a carry bag (that has a side pocket),
and is emblazoned with William Optics name and logo.
How much can you mount on it, how big a telescope or camera? You can easily
mount up to 8 lbs maximum on it. That means that any 66mm or 80mm refractor
from William Optics, or even a DSLR with heavy telephoto lens is easily
handled. For larger or heavier scopes, or for high power observations, we
still recommend the William Optics EZ Touch ALT-AZ Mount with wooden tripod
instead.
William Optics has brought you another piece of equipment, high on style and
function yet reasonably low on price. After all, it does have the SWAN logo
on it.

90mm Finder/Guide Scope Mounting Bracket
This finderscope/guider mounting ring system will mount a
short focal length refractor on a Celestron or Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain or
Ritchey-Chrétien telescope rear cell. It lets you use a small refractor as a
high power/variable power finderscope for your larger telescope, or as a
guide scope for long exposure deep sky photography with the main scope, or
as a wide field astrograph.
This system has two parts. One part consists of a pair of mounting rings
bolted to a 3.56" long dovetail rail. The second part is a 3.56" long
dovetail shoe that holds the ring system to your scope. This shoe bolts onto
a catadioptric scope’s rear cell, using the telescope manufacturer’s
predrilled finderscope/accessory holes. Celestron and Meade catadioptric
telescopes 7" in aperture and larger generally have two pairs of mounting
holes on 1.25" centers, located at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions on
their rear cells. The 10 o'clock pair normally holds the telescope’s
factory-equipped finder, while the second pair is for mounting accessories.
The cosmetic bolts filling the unused pair of holes on the rear cell are
removed and the 3.56" shoe is bolted into the exposed holes, using the new
chrome-finish bolts and hex head wrench supplied with this ring assembly.
There are three pairs of mounting bolt slots in the mounting shoe, spaced
along the shoe at approximately 1" intervals. This allows you to position
the mounting shoe fore and aft on the telescope rear cell to put your
finder/guide scope in the most convenient position to avoid bumping it with
your head during use. These 3/16" x 5/16" slot pairs allow for the minor
differences in the nominal 1.25" mounting hole spacing sometimes encountered
with older telescopes. The base of the mounting shoe is curved to fit a
7"-8" telescope’s rear cell, but the shoe will work on the rear cells of
catadioptric scopes up to 20" in aperture. The ring system can be used on
other scope types as well, providing the scope has a pair of accessory
mounting holes on the industry standard 1.25" centers (or can be drilled
with such holes, as in the case of a Sonotube or aluminum optical tube
reflector). It cannot be used on Takahashi or Vixen scopes, which use
proprietary finderscope mounting bolt patterns. Proper installation of the
mounting ring system on scopes other than Celestron or Meade 7" and larger
catadioptrics is the responsibility of the buyer.
The mounting rings themselves have a nominal 95mm (3.75") internal diameter
and will hold optical tubes with an o.d. of 60mm to 90mm. We recommend
scopes in the 66mm-70mm range, as larger scopes may have to be partially
disassembled to fit into the rings if their lens shade o d. is larger than
95mm. There are three large chrome finish hand-tighten adjustment bolts with
non-marring Delrin tips in each ring. These allow you to line up the
refractor with the main telescope optics when it is used as a finderscope,
or to aim the refractor off-axis to locate an appropriate guide star or
photographic target when it is used as a guider or astrograph. The 11/16"
wide rings are mounted at the opposite ends of the 3.56" long dovetail rail.
This puts the centerlines of the collimating bolts 2-7/8" apart, allowing
considerable freedom in lining up the refractor on off-axis objects for
guiding and photography. The knurled heads of the collimating bolts are
nearly 3/4" in diameter, providing a sure and easy grip, even while wearing
gloves in cold weather. The rings hold the centerline of a finder/guide
scope approximately 3.75" above the surface of the main telescope on which
the rings are mounted.
The dovetail rail holding the mounting rings has a safety groove machined
into one side. This groove engages with the two chrome-finish ball head
bolts in the mounting shoe that hold the mounting ring system in place on
the main scope. This prevents the mounting ring portion from slipping out of
the mounting shoe should the bolts in the shoe accidentally loosen during
use. In addition, there is a brass safety bolt in the mounting shoe. This
engages with a notch in the base of the dovetail rail to absolutely prevent
the mounting ring system and finder/guide scope from sliding backwards out
of the mounting shoe when the main scope is pointed at the sky.
The complete ring system and mounting shoe weighs only 17 ounces (482
grams). All parts are machined aluminum, anodized flat black to match the
finish of most catadioptric scope rear cells. The machined mounting hardware
is finished in non-rusting chrome for long life. New hex head mounting
hardware is provided to install the system on a Celestron or Meade
catadioptric scope, as is the appropriate size hex head installation wrench.

Vixen/Synta Style Mounting Bracket
This item, from Astronomy Technologies, is a single-piece
mounting stalk that will let you mount an RDF (red dot finder) or William
Optics finder rings directly into a Vixen/Celestron/Orion/Synta style finder
mounting shoe. It lets you replace the inexpensive plastic single red dot
finders with the more flexible illuminated multiple reticle patterns of a
metal RDF. Replacing the stock ring setup will give you better control in
aiming your finder scope by going to the a 6 point system instead of 3, and
overall upgrade your finder mounting system. The bottom of the mounting
stalk has a V-shaped base that is 30mm wide at its widest point. This will
let it fit into the finder mounting bracket provided with most of the
refractor and reflector telescopes from the above manufacturers. The top of
the mounting stalk has narrow V-shaped ridges that the RDF body, or finder
ring body clamps onto in order to lock the finder in place. It weighs in at
57 grams (2 ounces).
